Professor Anthony P.C. YIM

Professor Anthony P.C. Yim was born locally and attended secondary school at Wah Yan College, Hong Kong. He started his medical education at Cambridge University from which he graduated in 1981 with double First Class Honours. He received the Hobson Memorial Entrance Scholarship to Oxford University Medical School where he completed his basic medical education and was later awarded Doctor of Medicine. Professor Yim received his training in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at John Radcliffe Hospital and Harefield Hospital in UK, as well as the University of Chicago Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital in USA. He joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1992 and is currently Chair Professor of Surgery and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, as well as Co-director of the Cardiovascular Surgical Research Laboratory.

Professor Yim is a member of over thirty learned bodies, holding leadership positions in many of them. He was the past Chairman of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Board of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong as well as the past Chairman of the Cardiothroacic Surgery Specialty Group in the Hospital Authority. He is currently one of the very few Asian cardiothoracic surgeons who belongs to the elite American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), the oldest organization of this specialty. He has served on the Biology and Medicine Panel of the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong.

Professor Yim pioneered the development of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) in Asia and it earned him an international reputation. He is the lead editor of the book, Minimal Access Cardiothoracic Surgery (published by W.B. Saunders), now widely acclaimed to be the standard text in this field. Has contributed to over 30 book chapters as well as more than 300 publications in peer-reviewed, indexed journals. He currently serves or has served on over thirty editorial boards of international journals including CHEST, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, European Journal of Cardio-thoracic Surgery / Interactive Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (as an Associate Editor), Heart Surgery Forum, and World Journal of Surgery. Professor Yim has been invited to be a visiting professor to many leading academic institutions both in China as well as abroad, including PLA General Hospital (301 Hospital) in Beijing, Tongji University in Wuhan, the University of Toronto, Stanford University and the University of Oxford. He has been frequently invited to deliver lectures including the Litchfield Lecture by the University of Oxford, Foundation Lecture by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Keynote Lecture at the Japan Surgical Society. In 1994, he started a training programme at The Chinese University of Hong Kong for thoracic surgeons from mainland China to learn VATS in Hong Kong.

Dr Siu graduated from the medical school at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with distinctions. As an undergraduate student, Dr. Siu won many prizes for distinguished academic performance. In 1996, Dr Siu obtained his specialist qualification in general surgery, and he chose to pursue a career specialised in upper gastrointestinal & minimal access surgery. He was awarded the Young Clinician Award at the 11th World Congress of Gastroenterology in 1998.

Dr Siu has been actively delivering presentations in international medical conferences for his clinical research. His publications on perforated peptic ulcer have made significant impact on the role of laparoscopy in the management of this disease entity. Dr Siu has been invited as speaker and faculty in local and international conferences.

Dr Siu is currently Consultant at Department of Surgery, Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. Dr Siu is also the President of the Hong Kong Society of Minimal Access Surgery, Member of Board of Governors of Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia, Honorary Secretary of Hong Kong Society of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons, and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.






Dr Angus Chi Wai CHAN

Dr. Chan graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1986 with distinction honor in surgery and received his general surgical training at the Prince of Wales Hospital since 1987. In 1990, he was granted the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and continued his surgical and endoscopy training at the Prince of Wales Hospital. In 1993, he was elected as the Foundation Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Surgery). In 1994, Dr. Chan joined the Department of Surgery of the Chinese University of Hong Kong as Clinical Lecturer and became Senior Lecturer (Professor II) in 1999. In 2000, he was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Medicine for his thesis on oesophageal cancer treatment. Currently, he is appointed as the Director of Endoscopy Centre and Honorary Surgical Consultant, Minimally Invasive Surgery Center at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital.

His main surgical specialty and research interests are gastrointestinal surgery, therapeutic endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery and surgical cancer treatment. Over the years, he has published over 80 scientific articles in peer-review journals, 97 abstracts and 3 book chapters on various aspects of gastrointestinal surgery, endoscopic surgery and therapeutic endoscopy. Apart from being an active member of many internationally medical associations, Dr. Chan is also serving as Council member in various medical societies of Hong Kong and as the honorary treasurer of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific Society of Digestive Endoscopy.

Dr. Michael C. W. Cheng graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a Fellow in Urology of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Dr. Cheng is now working as Associate Consultant in the Department of Surgery of the Prince of Wales Hospital and Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a Council Member of the Hong Kong Society of Endourology. Dr. Cheng has great interest in Uro-Oncology, minimally invasive Urology and Andrology.

藍明權醫生在一九八九年於香港中文大學醫學院畢業,除即開始外科及腦外科專科訓練。在一九九三年考獲愛丁堡皇家外科學院院士及香港外科學院院士資格。於一九九五年獲提升為威爾斯親皇醫院腦
(神經)外科高級醫生及香港中文大學外科學系榮譽副教授。同年獲獎學金前往英國劍橋大學神經外科學系作為期一年的進修及學術研究。回港後藍醫生繼續威爾斯親皇醫院腦(神經)外科工作。一九九八年藍醫生進升為腦(神經)外科顧問醫生,是當時最年輕能夠成為腦外科顧問醫生的醫生。其間亦兼顧發展官塘聯合醫院及上水北區醫院的腦外科工作。

藍醫生多年來致力於學術研究,提升腦
(神經)外科的水準。其中多篇論文刋登於國際性醫學雜誌,並為多本醫學雜誌的投稿作評審。2003年開始獲委任為《中國神經腫瘤雜誌》編委。

藍醫生對醫學生及專科醫生的培訓非常注重。除了提供培訓,亦是醫學院考試和外科專科考試的考官。亦多次為本港及國內醫生協助舉行腦部及脊椎手術研習班。
2005年為發展自己的理想轉為私人執業,但仍以兼任及義務身份協助本港、澳門及內地醫生培訓工作。現任威爾斯親皇醫院腦(神經)外科榮譽顧問醫生,澳門仁伯爵(山頂) 醫院神經外科榮譽顧問醫生,中華脊椎教育中心顧問。藍醫生同時為香港中風學會會董,神經痛研究組成員。

Dr. Lau is currently a Consultant Surgeon of Quality HealthCare Medical Services. He is widely recognized for his expertise in laparoscopic hernia repair. Dr. Lau graduated from The University of Hong Kong in 1991 and was trained in the Department of Surgery, Queen Mary Hospital. He was awarded the Yahya Cohen Gold Medal in 1995 and Ho Hung-Chiu Medical Foundation Scholarship in 2000. He pursued his overseas surgical training in laparoscopic and vascular surgery at Harvard Medical School, Boston in 2000. The University of Hong Kong conferred on him Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery for his theses on laparoscopic hernia surgery in 2006 and 2002 respectively.

Dr. Lau has a personal series of more than 1,500 laparoscopic hernia repairs. He has published over 96 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Annals of Surgery, Archives of Surgery, British Journal of Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy, etc. In addition, he garnered a number of research awards including Young Investigator Award at 14th Asia-Pacific Cancer Congress (1997), Young Clinician Awards at 11th Asian Pacific Congress of Gastroenterology (2000) & World Congress of Gastroenterology (2002), as well as Ibrahim Ahmadsyah Poster Award at ELSA (2004). He has performed live demonstration of laparoscopic hernia repair at various local and international surgical meetings and has been invited to deliver lectures frequently in United States and China.






Dr Bonita Angela Ka Bo LAW

Dr Law graduated from the medical school at The Chinese University of Hong Kong with distinction in 1992. She then joined the Department of Surgery of the University, being the first batch of female trainees in the department. Dr Law successfully underwent her surgical training in general surgery. She was awarded the "Li Shield Medal" at the third Professional Examination in 1999, being the best candidate in the examination.

Dr Law had specialized in Breast Surgery for which she had attached herself to Professor Michael Baum's unit at the UCLH in London. Her special interest rested on the setting up of a comprehensive specialist breast service. Dr Law had successfully set up the first local "One Stop Breast Clinic" at the Prince of Wales Hospital in 2000 & had been the Surgeon in Charge coordinating the breast services within the whole New Territories East.

Dr Law started a new page of her career in 2003 when she started the Breast Centre at Union Hospital, offering one stop comprehensive breast service in the private sector.

Dr Law had been constantly involved in various social programs so as to promote public education & knowledge on breast cancer. She has been actively involved in the Hospital Authority's Breast Cancer Management Task Force since 2002, offering expert guidelines on breast cancer management protocol to all practitioners. Academic research serves as another important task in Dr Law's career. She is currently a core member of the research team in coordination with NTE Cluster & The Chinese University of HK.

Public education is a constant major area of Dr Law's practice. The Union Breast Centre, under Dr Law's guidance, had conjointly held yearly breast cancer awareness campaign (The Pink Ribbon Campaign) since the year 2004.

Dr. William Chia-shing MENG   蒙 家 興 醫 生

Dr. Meng is Consultant Surgeon, Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Training Centre (KWH MISTC) and the Director of Surgical Endoscopy, Department of Surgery, Kwong Wah Hospital, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

After graduating from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1989, he completed his training in the Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. His main interest is in Minimal Access Surgery, Colorectal Surgery and Endoscopy.

His specialty training was in the Royal London Hospital, London with Professor Norman Williams, St. Mark's Hospital, London and National Cancer Centre, Tokyo. In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious G.B. Ong Travelling Scholarship. This allowed for more experiences in Japan and Germany.

He is currently involved in the development and training in Minimal Access Surgery and Endoscopy. Kwong Wah Hospital is the first training centre for Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEM) in China. Dr. Meng is also one of the first surgeons to perform Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery and also to establish a comprehensive Anorectal Physiology Laboratory in the region.

Professor Yeung is currently Chair Professor of Surgery, and Director of Minimally Invasive Surgical Skills Centre, Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also Vice President of College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and Chairman of the CME Committee and Scientific Committee. Prof. Yeung started his career as a full-time paediatric surgeon & paediatric urologist in Hong Kong soon after completion of his general surgical training and obtaining his fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1985. He then proceeded to work overseas in London first in the Liver Transplantation Unit in King’s College Hospital, and later in the Department of Paediatric Urology in the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street from 1989-1992. After his return from United Kingdom in early 1993, he established a comprehensive paediatric urology programme in the Prince of Wales Hospital and was also instrumental in the establishment of Hong Kong’s first paediatric liver transplantation programme, with the first paediatric live-related liver transplantation in Hong Kong successfully performed in the Prince of Wales Hospital in May 1993.

Professor Yeung has special research interests in paediatric urology, children continence care, and paediatric minimally invasive surgery (MIS). His research in infant bladder function has brought new insights in the development of micturition control and the management of primary nocturnal enuresis (bed-wetting) in children. He is also a pioneer in the development of many innovative MIS techniques and laparoscopic procedures in infants and young children. He is currently President of International Children Continence Society as well as Immediately Past President of the International Paediatric Endosurgery Society and the Asia-Pacific Association of Paediatric Urologists. He is a member of the Editorial Board of many prestigious journals. He has published more than 130 scientific articles in national and international indexed journals, presented over 200 abstracts, and authored 23 book chapters. He is member of over 30 learned international societies. He has been invited as a Visiting Professor at 23 institutions worldwide and an invited speaker at 152 national and international meetings.








Ms Carol CHEONG

Ms Carol Cheong was currently Nursing Service Manager (Operating Theatre and Out-Patient Services) at Union Hospital, Hong Kong. Ms Carol completed her nursing training at Macau Nursing School in 1977. She achieved her Bachelor of Nursing (University of Ballarat) in 2004. Over the past 25 years, she experienced 2 different nursing cultures in Macau and Hong Kong. It was a valuable experience to lead over 10 nursing departments at Union Hospital.

Ms Rachel Wong was currently Nursing Officer at operating theatre Union Hospital, Hong Kong. Ms Rachel completed her nursing training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 1991. She achieved her Bachelor of Nursing (Edith Cowan University) in 1994 and Master of Business Administration in Hospital Service Management (University of Ballarat) in 2005. She worked as operating room nurse since 1994. Currently she was head of endoscopy team and ENT team.
